Cookie dough recall now affects Cedar Crest ice cream, Weight Watchers dessert

Автор: | 15.11.2016

Iowa-based Aspen Hills’ October recall of cookie dough due to possible listeria contamination now affects three flavors of Cedar Crest Specialties Inc. ice cream and Weight Watchers Smart Ones Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Sundae, according to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

Aspen Hills announced in October that inspectors had identified the listeria risk, but it wasn't immediately clear whether any of this cookie dough had reached consumers because the company doesn't sell directly to consumers. Aspen Hills also had not named the companies or states where the dough was sold, though Blue Bell in late September had already announced a recall of some of its products that used the potentially contaminated ingredient.

According to the FDA, listeria typically causes short-term illness in healthy people, who often experience high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea. However, in young, elderly or immunosuppressed individuals, listeria can lead to serious and fatal infections. In pregnant women, exposure to the bacterium Listeria monocytogenes can cause miscarriages and stillbirths.
