A Pennsylvania company is recalling 1,300 of its stainless steel playground slides after receiving reports that two children lost their fingers. Lewisburg-based Playworld Systems sold the slides for between $1,500 to $4,000 via independent distributors to schools, parks and municipalities between November 2000 and October 2016, Fox 43 reported. Horizon Industries, of Columbia, Pennslyvania, manufactured the product, called the Lighting Slide stainless steel playground slide, the company indicated in the recall.
The weld between the slide bedway and sidewall can crack and separate, posing the risk of a child’s fingers getting caught in the space and being amputated, according to Playworld. Although there are no identifying marks on the slides, the company describes them as made of stainless steel, coming in single or double bedways, with welds on both sides of the slide attaching the bedway to the sidewalks. The welds run all the way from the top to the bottom of the slides.

Playworld advised consumers with the recalled products to stop using them, and contact the company for a replacement slide and free installation. The company also announced in the recall that it would ship a temporary barrier to affected consumers prior to shipping a replacement slide to prevent children from using it.
